The short version
Two small values are kept in your browser whichever button you press: one remembers that you answered the age question, the other remembers your answer about cookies. Everything else — analytics, advertising measurement — stays switched off until you allow it, and stays off permanently if you decline.
What we mean by a cookie
We use the word the way the box at the bottom of the screen uses it: loosely, covering both classic cookies and the local storage that browsers offer. Our own two values use local storage, so they sit on your device and are not attached to any request sent to us.
Essential storage
- sv_age_confirmed — holds your answer to the 18+ question so the gate does not reappear on every page. It stays until you clear your site data.
- sv_consent_choice — holds whether you allowed or refused non-essential storage. Without it the cookie box would have to ask again on every visit. It stays until you clear your site data.
Neither can be turned off, because without them the site cannot respect decisions you have already made. Neither holds a name, an email address or anything that identifies you.
Analytics, only after you allow it
- Google Analytics 4 (_ga, _ga_*) — counts visits and sessions and shows which pages get read to the end. Usually expires two years after it is set.
Advertising measurement, only after you allow it
- Google Ads (_gcl_*) — tells us whether somebody who clicked one of our advertisements went on to read about the rooms or write to reception. Usually expires after ninety days.
Both run through Google Consent Mode. Until you answer the box, every category is set to denied in the page head, which means the tags may be present but store nothing whatsoever. Essential only keeps them in that state.
Changing your mind
Open in the footer of any page and choose again; the new answer replaces the old one as soon as you click. Clearing this site's storage in your browser does the same thing and also resets the age question.
Blocking storage in the browser
Every current browser can block or delete cookies and site storage, usually under a heading like Privacy or Site settings. Blocking everything will not break these pages. It does mean the age question and the cookie box come back on each visit, because the site then has nowhere to remember your answers.
What this site does not use
No social network pixels. No advertising networks besides Google. No cross-site profiling, no device fingerprinting, no session recording, no embedded video or map from a third party. The only external files these pages load are the two web fonts the design is set in.
